The Great Smoky Mountains
A subrange of the larger Appalachian Mountain range, the Smokies are named for their natural fog that rises and hangs over the mountains. The fog is formed by vapor released from the mountains' vegetation, and is truly spectacular when viewed over a distance.
The design features a digitally-altered photograph with an impressionist / oil painted style. The background has a subtle topographic base pattern. The state outline is created with a series of high resolution digital brushstrokes and drips.
